Biography

Formed in 2004 by singer/guitarist Saskia van der Giessen, the Amsterdam-based Labasheeda blend poppy melodies with bursts of noise and distorted violin.
After the release of their well-received first record Charity Box (2006), bassist David Jackson left the band, while Arne Wolfswinkel joined as a second guitar player. In this bass-less line-up Labasheeda recorded a 10”/CD-EP, titled A Few of a Population (2009).
The band became a four-piece when Thanos Fiotadis joined on bass, followed a few months later by new drummer Dyan Ramekers. This expanded line-up allows more room for Saskia’s trippy soundscapes on the violin.
The band often ventures onto foreign soil and toured the UK and the Czech Republic this year. In 2009, the band visited Canada for a 10-day tour including an appearance at the North by Northeast festival in Toronto. Labasheeda have also done sessions for lots of great radio stations around the globe, including Breakthru radio from New York and the BBC.
In November 2009 the band released the 7” single Circle. Labasheeda has currently completed their new album The Twilight State, which will released in September by Presto Chango Records.
